Prof. Paula E. Colavita


Executive Officer & Co-founder

Dr. Colavita completed her PhD in physical chemistry in 2005 at the University of South Carolina (USA) and carried out postdoctoral research work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA). In 2008 she joined the School of Chemistry at Trinity College Dublin where she is currently an Associate Professor and a College Fellow. She is the author of >70 publications in international journals and co-inventor of two patents. She leads a research team at Trinity College Dublin, whose activities focus on understanding and achieving control of interfacial processes and reactions, as well as the application of advanced functional materials to address important scientific and technological challenges. Prof. Colavita is the recipient of research funding from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), the Environmental Protection Agency Ireland (EPA), Irish Research Council (IRC), Enterprise Ireland (EI), EU FP7 Access and H2020 Actions. She was a National Science Foundation (NSF) Postgraduate Research Fellow and a visiting researcher at Livermore National Laboratories (USA). She is a co-founder of Glycome Biopharma Ltd.

Prof. Eoin Scanlan


Chief Scientific Officer & Co-founder

Eoin Scanlan is a graduate of the National University of Ireland, Galway. He completed his PhD in synthetic organic chemistry at the University of St. Andrews. Following postdoctoral work with Prof. Philippe Renaud at the University of Bern, Switzerland and Prof. Benjamin Davis at the University of Oxford, UK, he started his independent academic career in Trinity College Dublin in 2008. He is Associate Professor of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry and a PI in the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute. He was elected Fellow of Trinity College Dublin in 2016. He has published research in leading international peer-reviewed journals and is author of >60 publications. He has secured ca. 2M euro in research funding. He has presented his research at a number of international conferences and symposia including, San Francisco, Shanghai, London, Madrid, Lisbon and Dublin. He leads an international research team in Trinity College with a focus on biomolecular synthesis, including peptides, proteins and glycoconjugates towards the development of novel therapeutics, diagnostics and biomaterials. He is co-founder and CSO of Glycome Biopharma.

Dr Shane Smith


Chief Business Officer

Shane Smith specialised in biotechnology and bio-business out of the University of Aberdeen and National University of Ireland, Galway and brings a wealth of operational management experience across multiple sectors in the biotechnology industry. Shane’s background is in improving efficiency, controlling costs, strategic planning and is well versed in overseeing lean operations across international facilities. He has held pivotal positions in a number of small to large sized biotech companies. Currently Shane holds the position of Chief Operations Officer at BioCyto Ltd and is a Life Science Investment Adviser for PanEuro Technology Ventures. He joined Glycome BioPharma in 2019.

Dr Silvia Fogli


Senior Research Scientist

Silvia Fogli holds a MSc in Supramolecular, Materials and Nanosystems Chemistry and a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Florence. Her postgraduate research focused on the characterisation of amphiphiles in solution as well hybrid supramolecular assemblies that combine inorganic and organic nanostructures, such as functional nanoparticles and liposomes. She is an expert in physico-chemical characterisation of soft-matter and in 2017 she was also the recipient of the Procter & Gamble Award for best presentation at the European Student Colloid Conference. She is a Senior Research Scientist at Glycome Biopharma.
